What’s the point in electing a Democrat, if the Democrat supports right wing homophobia? What nonsense, for Bill Owens to say that he supports civil rights, while denying equality to ten percent of his constituents. Here in New York State, both of our United States Senators voted against Senate Amendment 1434. Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand voted to maintain no-bid government contracts. To those people who showed up to express outrage in Niagara Square yesterday, we offer a friendly invitation to join the New York Green Party in a more sustainable movement that’s based on something more powerful than anti-government anger: The belief that Americans can continue to come together to find ways to overcome the challenges they hold in common. The agenda of the Reform Caucus has been one of concession and failure. For example, in the months before the invasion of Iraq, the Reform Caucus led the way to the passage of a resolution by the state Democratic Committee that waffled between questioning the worth of the proposed war while accepting the legitimacy of the war, so long as there was a debate and vote in Congress beforehand. |
